Berlin 2020

Author´s Note
Re-publishing.

This post was first published on 14 March 2020. I published as post of images only at this time. No one was yet fully aware of what was going to happen. This edition presents a reduced number of the works in this series and my reflections today.

Arriving in Berlin at the end of December 2019.
In three months history would have temporarily stranded us.

I knew nothing about it then. I was walking around this unknown, fascinating city and the words of Lucio Dalla came back to my mind. Very big and a little sad.
But cities with big rivers are always very beautiful.

And inspiration came to me all at once, without delay, without a problem. As if Berlin was the keystone of my search over the years, at least I thought so…

I immediately started working on this new technique, based on the hallucinatory memories of LSD users.

One thing that always struck me about people who brought back experiences of psychedelic journeys was the fact that they all seemed to have experienced, at some point in their journey, reality as a set of moving lines.

These stories created glimpses of traces in my imagination, like smudges of stains, something like a print in which the ink smudged the whole in an aesthetically pleasing way.

From these shared experiences, from the reverberations on the Spree, from a personal reflection on the aesthetics of painting, from the mirroring of the old red brick factories in the Spree, from my desire to explore new resources and (as is often the case in all research) from a random series of coincidences and mistakes, the DE.20 Series was born: acrylics on warehouse paper (Lagerkarte), found and recycled.
